Self-hosted blog one year ago

Filed Under LiveJournal, Twitter, Web site, WordPress, blog

I just noticed, while looking at some of my blog stats that I just Tweeted about, that my blog has been self-hosted for over a year now. It was a year back in April 2008. Remember I switched over from Livejournal. LiveJournal UserInfobizcards How did I do that you ask? A special plug-in: LJ user ex WordPress Plug-in. It converts <lj user=”username”> or <lj user=”community”> to look like it would if it was in LiveJournal. I still have my entries cross-posted to my old LiveJournal. All those entries are friends only there. This was made possible by LJ-XP (LiveJournal CrossPoster).

I am looking forward to another year or more of my blog being self-hosted.

There are still a lot of changes I have in stored for my blog in the upcoming months. As you have read in previous post, I have combined old sub-domains and such onto my blog. That is just the start! So please keep coming back and finding out what is new!

Cross-post problem fixed

I have my Cross-post problem fixed now for those that go into my old LiveJournal blog ( LiveJournal UserInfobizcards). It was having problems with images that are placed in my blog, I found it to be from a plug-in that auto signed alt tags to the images placed in my blog, and LJ didn’t like the code it was using so it was dumping it. I tried to edit some of my past entries, so if you have noticed strange html errors on some, that is why. So my Cross-Posting should be fixed for the images part. Remember you can always comment on my new blog using your OpenID which is what LJ supports and uses too! =) If you do notice any past entries still like that, give me a comment to that entry and I will get it fixed asap. Plus, I do have a plug-in now that will e-mail you when I have replied to comments so you will know about these. Try it out today!

If you haven’t yet checked out my new blog, please feel free to do so!

New Layout

I now have a new layout to my blog.
I used the mushblue-10 WordPress theme set up by: Mukka-mu.
I edited it some for some of my stuff I have on it.
Even edited my header images to fit the new theme.
Thank goodness for Layers in Photoshop to make it easier to edit.
I even added DiggIT to my blog, so you can click on the DIGG feature for any of my post, if you wish to do so. I also have OpenID installed on my blog now too. So you can reply to comments using your OpenID. (Attention my LiveJournal friends! — This is where you put in the URL of your Journal) and it will allow you to comment on my blog. Please visit my blog and let me know what you think.

If you have any suggestions, comments, etc. about my blog, please let me know. I want to hear them.

Added: I disabled the DiggIT Plugin, it kept giving me errors when I would make a post or edit entries. But, I hope to find a fix.

You can also subscribe to my feed at: http://blog.cardeologist.com/feed/.

Make a note of these. This crosspost plugin I have for WordPress, should post into LiveJournal. So all my LJ friends will still see my post.

Upgraded Web site

Filed Under LiveJournal, Web site, WordPress

I have upgraded my Web site, www.cardeologist.com. I paid to have My SQL added to my Web site.
It only cost me $40 for now and until August 2009. This should be complete and on my domain by the middle of the next week. So, I would say by this time next week, my blog will be moved over to my own domain name. I already set up the sub-domain for my blog. Once, it is all live and such, I will make another post and announce that. Thanks for all who is reading my new blog.

I plan to have CrossOver plugin, so I can post it into LiveJournal too.

So anyone know of any other good WordPress plugins I can use?

I’ve Imported my LiveJournal post

I got my entries imported from Livejournal. I didn’t import the comments, I figure the most important part is the post themselves. Now, I will have to go through them and weed out ones I don’t want kept and ones I do. Plus, perhaps edit some of the words in them and such to fit for WP. I used a program called, LJArchieve to do this. You find more information at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljarchive/. I did only my Post. When, I had it do my comments, it would give me errors.

Still workin’

Filed Under LiveJournal, Web site, WordPress

I have my Web site hosted through Mister.net.
I only pay $35 per year total. That includes hosting and e-mail, etc. It cost additional $35 to add My SQL to it. Plus, more features, bigger space and bandwith. So I plan to upgrade my Web site soon, so I can have the My SQL and transfer my blog onto my own domain from WP’s site, but I still will be using WP’s site. I will keep you all updated on this progress.

I did get my comments exported to XML using one program and it couldn’t do the post entries, kept giving an error. Now I did use a different program, it would allow me to export my entries, but not my comments. Go figure eh? But the bad thing is, my comments XML is 4 MB, it is already over the 3 MB limit. So I may just import my entries and not my comments from LiveJournal.

So please bare with me as I make the switch over from LJ to WP. It will be a long process, but I am slowly but surely getting it. I just wished I knew about WP from the beginning, it would have saved a whole of time eh?

Plus, now I need to market out this new blog, but I will wait until I get it hosted on my Web site, before I do that. I know my LJ can be found in tons of blog searches and such. So it will be just a matter of time before it will be found here. I think I enjoy the more custom features you an do at WordPress than LiveJournal. Plus, you an host WP on your own domain.

If you all are reading this, please let me know what I can do to make my blog better and such. I am up for suggestions and ideas or if you have tips about moving over and such, share them with me, pretty please! Including great plug-ins to use and such. *big smiles*

Workin’ on importing

I m trying to get my past post from LiveJournal exported so I can import them into WordPress.
I  am currently trying a program called LJArchieve, but I keep getting errors and it will only export up to a certain date and then stop. So it isn’t working. I want to try to export it with all comments. I know I can use the export part from LJ, but it does it one month at a time and no comments. So bare with me as I try to get my past post imported into WordPress. I am working on my switch over from LJ to WP. If anyone can help me, that would be great. I would appreciate that very much. I have tried a few different things too and no luck yet.

If anyone is reading this post and doesn’t have a clue. I am also just wondering how many LJers have switched over to WP? Please let me a comment and let me know. Let me know if you prefer WP over LJ or the other way around. I been on LiveJournal since July 2004.

So I am also working on my design and layout of my blog. I want to host it on my Web site, but I need to upgrade my package to include the MySQL package. I would just need to pay $35 extra a year.
