I was able to redesign my custom blog topper for this blog. Instead of the custom default text that this theme used. You can see this at the top of my blog, it is my title topper for my blog.

I just noticed, while looking at some of my blog stats that I just Tweeted about, that my blog has been self-hosted for over a year now. It was a year back in April 2008. Remember I switched over from Livejournal.
bizcards How did I do that you ask? A special plug-in: LJ user ex WordPress Plug-in. It converts <lj user=”username”> or <lj user=”community”> to look like it would if it was in LiveJournal. I still have my entries cross-posted to my old LiveJournal. All those entries are friends only there. This was made possible by LJ-XP (LiveJournal CrossPoster).
I am looking forward to another year or more of my blog being self-hosted.
There are still a lot of changes I have in stored for my blog in the upcoming months. As you have read in previous post, I have combined old sub-domains and such onto my blog. That is just the start! So please keep coming back and finding out what is new!

I have a new look to my blog. What do you think? There might be a few tweaks to it. But, I like it. I am using the Inanis Glass theme. I need to figure out how to edit the disclaimer part of it. I haven’t figured that one out yet. Any ideas? Now that I have this theme up, which is a newer version theme than what was previously used. My old theme I was using for over a year. So I figured it was time for a change. But back to topic, maybe I can get the Twitter ID in the comments field to display now. I will work on that later. I have tweaked it some to fit some of the things I have been using. It is trying to remember everything I had to customize for my plug-ins and them back applied with this theme. So bare with me over the next little while as I get this done.
Oh yea, check out toward the bottom! It looks like a Windows Vista Taskbar. You can change the background and colors! Try it out!
So what do you think? Please share with me your comments.

You can now also view my blog in a mobile version. It should automatically show the mobile version if you are on a mobile browser. Just wanted to give you all an update on the progress of my blog. I been working a lot on my blog. I have some ideas in-stored. One of them is to auto link Twitter names like @friendlyknoxguy and it will link to the Twitter profile. Another one I have is to add Twitter ID on the comments form of my blog. If anyone is reading this post and know a great plug-in for it. Can you please share those for me.

Do you want to drive some traffic to your blog? I will give you some suggestions that I use to get some traffic to my blog.
SUBMIT TO SEARCH ENGINE FEEDS
I submit my rss feed to places like Ping Oat, Ping-O-Matic. At these Web sites you enter information about your blog. Then it will submit your blog to blog search engines and places that use rss to feed content into their Web sites. This also includes using your Ping Services to let them know when you make a new post. Don’t use the default method. Instead use a plug-in. It won’t ping too much, causing your site to be banned. I use MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer.
SUBMIT TO BLOG DIRECTORIES
I also submited my blog to LoadedWeb. It breaks down your blog by where you live. For example, My blog is under USA, Tennessee, Knoxville. This is just one example of many blog directories you can submit your blog to.
COMMENT IN OTHER BLOGS
Another way, you can build traffic is going to other people’s blogs and giving them comments. Be sure to list your blog or Web site. Most comments, will link your name to your blog or Web site. Also, allow comments on your blog. Be sure to reply to comments you receieve. Please make sure you don’t spam them with comments. Just give them comment based on what they wrote. Give them feedback. That is what comments are for after all.
Word of Mouth
Word of mouth, tell your friends and family about your blog. Basicly this is self-explanitory. Just tell everyone about your blog. After ahile, they will tell others about your blog and so forth.
SOCIAL BOOKMARKING
Add the social bookmarking sites, like Digg, Sphere, del.icio.us, and StumbledUpon. (to name a few). As an example, I have some down on the bottom of each of my post in my blog. This way people can favorite that post on their favorite site.
GET A TWITTER ACCOUNT
Twitter! Get a twitter account. I am sure if you search google you can find a plug-in that will tweet your Twitter account when you make a new post. That way those who wish to follow you on Twitter will know you have a new post. Twitter is one of the fastest growing communities on the Internet. I use TwitPress to post to my Twitter account of a new blog entry.
SOCIAL WEB SITES
Join social Web sites like Facebook and MySpace. Most a link to your blog on your profile. Some will even notify your friends on your profile that you have a new entry or two.
BUSINESS CARDS
If you have business cards, make sure to add your blog address to your business cards. So on your next printing order, make sure to make changes to them by adding this to it.
LINKS
Make sure to link to your blog in your signautre of your E-mail. Also, make sure you have a link on your main Web site to your blog. Maybe have your friends a link to your blog from theirs. You can even try link-exchanges. That is where people will trade links. Person A puts a link to you on their Web site, while you put a link to Person A on your Web site.
MAKE RELAVANT POST
Another idea is post about things that everyone wants to read, current news, celeberities, travel, tips and tricks, troubleshooting, how to’s, etc. Something unique always works as well. Make it something people will want to read. Something they may keep coming back for me. Make your post involve the readers. So they can post comments. Make sure you reply to those comments. It helps bring back readership to your blog.
TAG/CATEGORIES
Don’t forget to use tags. Tag your post based on the content of your post. Tags kind of work like keywords. Make sure the tags or categories (in come cases they use both) are keywords about the topic of the post. Don’t use keywords that don’t relate to the post you made. There is nothing like going to a blog entry based on a keyword and that entry has nothing to do with that keyword. That is a great way to lose readership.
RSS FEED
Make sure you have a RSS feed to your blog and make it where people know where to find it. A lot of readers read your blog via RSS feed readers. Try using FeedBurner. It lets you know how many subscribes you have reading your feed. I use Feedburner, it helps keep track of your feed stats!
STAT COUNTER
If your blog doesn’t have a stat counter, you might want to find a good plug-in to show you stats about your blog. They will show you the most popular entry. Best day for visits. Keywords used to come to your blog, your refer and any other number of information that might make it helpful to know where to promote your blog more or less in.
IMAGES
Add images to your post. Images help with visual effects. The old saying is … A Picture is worth a thousand words.. This is one practice that I need to do more when I post into my blog.
TRACKBACKS & TWEETBACKS
Basicly these work like links to other blogs or Twitter accounts that mentioned your blog entry. They usually show up as a comment on your blog. This way when people read their Twitter account or blog they will see your blog and possibly visit your blog from that Trackback or Tweetback.
NOFOLLOW
rel tag with nofollow (example: rel=”nofollow”) in your link tag will help boost your ranking, thus leading to more visitors! I use a plug-in for my blog for it. It automatically adds the nofollow attribute to links. Nofollow Reciprocity plug-in
SITE MAPS
Have a site map that google and yahoo can use to index your blog. I use this plug-in to generate sitemaps for me. Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator for WordPress.
PATIENTS
Just remember it takes time and patients for your blog to get popularity and start gaining hits. It won’t happen over night! Patients is a virtue..
OTHER IDEAS?
Do you have any other ideas that are helpful? Anything I need to update or change, add to or take away? Just let me know. I need your feedback. What helped you? What didn’t help you?

I have my Cross-post problem fixed now for those that go into my old LiveJournal blog (
bizcards). It was having problems with images that are placed in my blog, I found it to be from a plug-in that auto signed alt tags to the images placed in my blog, and LJ didn’t like the code it was using so it was dumping it. I tried to edit some of my past entries, so if you have noticed strange html errors on some, that is why. So my Cross-Posting should be fixed for the images part. Remember you can always comment on my new blog using your OpenID which is what LJ supports and uses too! =) If you do notice any past entries still like that, give me a comment to that entry and I will get it fixed asap. Plus, I do have a plug-in now that will e-mail you when I have replied to comments so you will know about these. Try it out today!
If you haven’t yet checked out my new blog, please feel free to do so!

When you are in your WordPress admin page, click on the right side where it says settings. Then you will need the Writing tab, you can find that toward the left side. Once on that page, scroll down toward the bottom of the page, you will see Update Services. Under that is a textarea box. You can copy-paste this into it. This will ping these sites that you have updated your blog.
This is the list that I have…

Please note, that each of the above needs to be on its own line!
Of course you can manually submit your blog by using Web sites like:
Ping-O-Matic or even AutoPinger just to name a couple. These should ping your blog to several Blog Searches Engines.
This is just one of many ways to help increase traffic to your blog.

I now have a new layout to my blog.
I used the mushblue-10 WordPress theme set up by: Mukka-mu.
I edited it some for some of my stuff I have on it.
Even edited my header images to fit the new theme.
Thank goodness for Layers in Photoshop to make it easier to edit.
I even added DiggIT to my blog, so you can click on the DIGG feature for any of my post, if you wish to do so. I also have OpenID installed on my blog now too. So you can reply to comments using your OpenID. (Attention my LiveJournal friends! — This is where you put in the URL of your Journal) and it will allow you to comment on my blog. Please visit my blog and let me know what you think.

If you have any suggestions, comments, etc. about my blog, please let me know. I want to hear them.
Added: I disabled the DiggIT Plugin, it kept giving me errors when I would make a post or edit entries. But, I hope to find a fix.
