It is hard to believe the the Boy Scouts of America just celebrated it’s 100th Anniversary on February 8, 2010. I am an Eagle Scout. I attained the highest honor in 1994. I even remember being in the Boy Scouts as they celebrated the 75th Diamond Jubilee. I started out in the Cub Scouts as a Bobcat and went all the way through to Boy Scouts to the highest rank you can earn, Eagle. ONCE AN EAGLE, ALWAYS AN EAGLE! I have have got to help a few Boy Scouts troops as an Assistant Scoutmaster. Scouting has done a lot for me and I am very proud to be part of the Scouting Community. Here’s to many more years of Scout. Thank you Lord Baden Powell. Boy Scouts of America 1910-2010.

Do you know the difference between a Red Oak and a White Oak?

Red Oak Leaf
RED OAK has pointed corners. Just think Red Man used arrows.

White Oak Leaf
WHITE OAK has rouneded corners. White man used bullets.
This was something I remembered while in Scouting. It came back to my attention going camping a few weeks ago and then noticed a White Oak Tree while walking the trail in Norris by the dam. So I figured I would share with you in a post in my blog.

What is my greatest accomplishment
I would have to say that my greatest accomplishment is attaining the rank of Eagle.
The rank of Eagle is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. I attained the rank of Eagle on July 5, 1994. I was a member of Troop 26 in the Great Smoky Mountain Council. I started out as a Cub Scout and worked my way to the very top! I am also a Life Time member of the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA).
Once an Eagle Scout, Always an Eagle Scout!

So have you ever meet anyone famous?
I have met a few famous people.
I got to meet Kenny Chesney in the mid 90’s.
It was part of the opening of a store that I worked.
I got his CD autographed and a poster autographed too.
I even got to shake his hand and talk to him for a few minutes.
Another person I got to meet was John Duncan Jr.
I met him while I was in middle school at a pancake breakfast a few times.
He was going to come to my Eagle Scout ceremony, but had to send someone as his representative,
since he had official business to take care of. I was presented with an United States of America flag
that was flown over the Capital.
I have got to meet a few others while working at a local newspaper, early on in the 2000’s.
I got to meet a few from Stars in the Smokies in Newport, TN and some at the Foothills Fall Festival in Maryville, TN.
I have even got to meet some local news casters and radio DJ’s.
Who famous have you met? Feel free to leave your comments and let me know!

I am also a lifetime member of National Eagle Scouts Association (NESA).
BTW, I have noticed that the Scouts are also collecting food for Scouting for Food. So if you can donate food, that will be great. The food will go to those in need.

My greatest Accomplishment is…
Attaining the Rank of Eagle
The Rank of Eagle, for those that don’t know if the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. I attained my Eagle July 5, 1994. I had to advance in rank to move on my Trail to Eagle. I also had to earn “Skill Awards.” They no longer have Skill Awards. Plus, I earned Merit Badges. I had to go on camping trips, do community service projects and serve as leadership position in my Troop.
For my Eagle Scout project, I did some landscaping. I landscaped around the Annex building of my old church. The building wasn’t used for anything. They called it the Old Youth Building. Shortly, after I landscaped the building, they turned it into a Mother’s Day Out building.
I started out in Cub Scouts as a Bobcat. I don’t think they had Tiger Scouts then or near me. I have also served as Assistant Scoutmaster for 2 troops in Knoxville, TN and then 1 in Gaylord, MI.
I would like to find a local troop and help them. I have two numbers to contact about helping a local troop.
My old troop is no longer around, but I have heard they are trying to get the church to approve having the troop back again, this would be a few blocks from my house. Growing up it was just half a block away.
In the Scouts I got up to “Brotherhood” in the Order of the Arrow. (0A). Those in the BSA know what I am talking about.
I need to renew my membership to NESA (National Eagle Scout Association).
My resume even list that my greatest achievement is attaining my Rank of Eagle.
BTW, did you know that in Feb. 2010, Boy Scouts will be 100 years old?
I remember the 75th Diamond Anniversary while I was a kid in the Scouts (1985).
My Boy Scout troop even made it to the 50th Anniversary, forgot when now.
“Once an Eagle Scout, Always an Eagle Scout.”
