ALDI

Knoxville area has a new grocery store in town. It is called ALDI. It is off Clinton Hwy. near the Wal-mart & Home Depot. It seems like an interesting store …

The set-up inside reminds me of Save-A-Lot.

If you use a shopping cart, you must have a quarter. You put the quarter in the slot and you get a cart. When you return the cart, you get your quarter back. I guess that is a good way to save on employees collecting carts.

Another way I think they cut cost, is not having bags. So if you go, you need to bring your own bags. Kind of like how Sam’s Club does it. But, I didn’t see boxes up front, like Sam’s Club has for you to place your items in.

They do have brand name items there. To me the prices are about the same as if I went to a normal grocery store like Food City or Kroger. But, they do have some generic stuff.

I do know I would go back again.

Do any of you have this store or a similar store that either doesn’t bag your groceries or requires money to use the shopping carts?

Yes- there is an ALDI near where I live. I do most of my shopping there. I started shopping there several months ago in order to save money. My son likes to shop at Kroger but I think they are too expensive and I will only shop there if I know that what I want I can’t get at ALDI.
I have several canvas and cloth bags that I use now when I’m shopping. Even if I have to buy something at Kroger I will take them in and use them.
I usually leave my quarter in my cart when I’m done as a kind of “Random Acts of Kindness” or “Pay it Forward” thing. It’s not much but I sure did appreciate it when someone left a quarter in one time when I went shopping there. :)

sweet that is neat to hear you have ALDI too. That is nice you leave the quarter there in the cart. I have some of those canvas bags too. I guess it also helps by us going GREEN.

We have an Aldi here in Farmington. They do have reusable ‘canvas’ bags for sale, big ones that hold a LOT, they also offer large, colorful plastic bags for 10 cents and paper bags for 5 cents at the register. They are the only store in town that carries oat bran bread.
