The Vols beat the Tide!

October 21st, 2006 | Category: Uncategorized

OPENING THOUGHTS
This could be anyones game today. I do believe the Vols will defeat the Tide. I know rankings sometimes don’t mean anything but TN is ranked 7 and AL is not ranked. The game was on CBS at 3:30 p.m. I got to watch it on tv. Since, this is a free channel and I don’t have cable. The game was held at Neyland Stadium here in Knoxville, TN.

1st QUARTER
TN won the toss and TN will kick the ball to AL. AL couldn’t do much of anything with the ball and had to punt it to TN. TN ended up gaining a 32 yrd. punt return by Morley, the longest punt return of the season. Ainge is QB for TN. TN goes for a field goal attempt. Wilhoits kick is… Not Good. Wilhoits kicks are 7 for 9 now this season. AL now takes over the ball. AL had to punt to TN. Colquitt had to punt to AL. AL attempts a field goal, it is good. TN—0 to AL—3. Now WIVK cannot give away that $10,000, since TN didn’t shut out AL (meaning AL having a score of 0). They were going to give away $10,000 to caller number 7 at 8:15 a.m. Monday morning. Now AL kicks the ball off to TN. AL eneded up intercepting the ball from TN. (TN was close to a touchdown too, btw). This is Ainge’s 6th interception of the season. At the end of the 1st quarter the score is TN— 0 to AL— 3.

2nd QUARTER
Al starts with the ball just after intercepting the ball at the end of the 1st quarter. AL had to punt the ball to TN. Flag on the play, illegal formation on TN. TN attempts a field goal, 27 yrds. Wilhoit’s kick is… GOOD! TN—3 and AL—3. TN to kick off to AL. This was the Aflac question How many former SEC players are now current coaches in their conference? The answer is 4. I do knwo Philip Fulmer (head coach of the Vols — His alamater); Alabama’s head coach, which that happens to be his alamater too. Then, I know of Steve Spurier. I am unsure of the 4th one. Now back to the game. AL had to punt to TN. AL intercepted, yet another ball from TN. And again, TN was close to a touchdown. Now AL attempts a field goal, 18 yrds., the kick is good. TN—3 to AL—6. AL kicks the ball off to TN. The attendance of the game was 106,695. While TN had the ball, Ainge threw yet another interception, his 3rd for the game. At the end of the 1st half the score is TN—3 to AL—6.

HALF TIME THOUGHTS
Like I’ve said last week and at my opening thoughts, this could be anyones game. By now you should know to never under estimate ‘Bama football, even if they are not ranked, they are still tough and a good rival for TN. I am sure with those interceptions and the score, TN will be getting a good butt chewing at half time. I am sure they will come back, like they usually always do in the 2nd half. It just might be like the game against GA 2 weeks ago. Oh yea, I wanted to make a point and share that I saw some fans that I recognized. Jamision of the Big Orange Army and this one guy that I saw a video of his on You Tube. Each of them they showed a few times during the 2nd quarter.

3rd QUARTER
AL kicks the ball to TN to start the 3rd quarter. There was a flag on the play, and then another. The 2nd one was “false start” on TN. TN had to punt to AL. This punt was blocked by AL. This was Colquits first blocked kick in 1 1/2 years. AL now has the ball. There is a flag on the play, holding against AL. AL had to punt the ball to TN. Flag. Ruled it as no flag on the play. The reason I couldn’t keep up with some of the flags is the ref forgot to open his mic when he annoucned the flag rulings. Wilhoit now attempts a field goal, 47 yrds. It is good! TN—6 to AL—6. TN now kicks off to AL. TN almost intercepted the ball from AL. AL punts to TN. TN made a mistake by not punting or trying for a field goal at 4th and 1. They couldn’t complete it to make a first down. Now AL takes over the ball. TN intercepted the ball, well it was ruled that it was simutatmoiusly caught, so that means AL gets it. If it was ruled interferance, then it would have been a penalty and redone. So AL got the ball Then that later lead to an AL touchdown. The extra point is good too. TN—6 to AL—13. AL now kicks the ball off to TN. Coker got hurt in this drive too. They said he sprained his knee. So he is out for the rest of the game. At the end of the 3rd the score is TN—6 to AL—13.

4th QUARTER
TN starts the 4th quarter with the ball. Colquitt had to punt the ball to AL. Flag against AL. Illegal block on the back. AL putn to TN now. AL recovers the ball w/a flag on the play. Interference on the kicking team, AL didn’t get to recover it. TN attempts a field goal, 26 yrds., the kick is… GOOD! TN—9 to AL—13. TN kicks the ball off to AL. AL punts to TN. Flag on the play, against AL (pass interference). Ainge throws the ball to Foster for a TN Touchdown! Wilhoits extra point is… GOOD! TN—16 to AL—13. TN to kick off the ball to AL. AL had to punt the ball to TN. Glad, dead ball, 12 players in the huddle against TN. I believe TN will now play with the clock since there is less than 1:36 in the game. Now AL has the ball. TN got a penalty, offsides. TN wins the ball game by a score of 16 to 13.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I figured this game would be close. I am very glad the Vols won this game. I do believe TN needs to work more on the turnovers and interceptions, esp. when we are within scoring zones. Because of this win, this makes the Vols bowl game eligable. Of course the player of the game was Erik Ainge.

NEXT GAME
Our next game will be another touch game. It will be against South Carolina (SC). SC is also another SEC game. Remember the rest of the games are all conference games for TN. I hope to be able to do my reports like this next week, but I have somewhere to be. I believe I should or might be back in time to do some of it. The game will be on ESPN at 7:45 p.m. I will have to listen to the game on WIVK, since I don’t have cable.

Oh yea, so far this year I have gained more then I have in 2004, where I gained 21,937, then and this year I have gained 21,957, however, I still haven’t gained as much as I did last year. Last year (2005) I gained 26,390 in one years time. I wonder how much I will gain this year?
