All aboard for the Big Orange Express
The Three Rivers Rambler and the University of Tennessee are offering football fans a shuttle train to home football games.
Knoxville, TN — Football fans ccan now ride a train to University of Tennessee football games. New for 2006, the Three Rivers Rablmer and Univeristy of Tennessee are providing a shuttle train to transport passengers from the new RV parking lot to Lake Loudon Blvd. The ride itself only last a few minutes but gives UT fans the unique ability to arrive to games via car, RV, boat, airplane and now train. No other college stadium offers their fans that opportunity.
The shuttle train is part of RAILGATES, the railroad version of tailgating. Started in 2005, companies and individuals rent railroad equipment to host tailgate parties on campus. With the construction of a new RV parking lot at the edge of campus, the idea of a shuttle train was developed. Working with the Univeristy, railroad officials worked on details to transport football fans to the games.
“After talking to the University about a shuttle train, we felt it made perfect sense with our passenger equipment and location,” said Mike Schoenberger, Director of Marketing for the Three Rivers Rambler. “With the success of last year’s RAILGATE tailgating parties, we felt a shuttle train was a great way to increase our services during football games.”
There is no charge for fans to ride the shuttle train on gameday. The University has covered the associated costs of running the train.
The shuttle trains will be loaded and unloaded on Stephenson Drive near the new soccer stadium and at Lake Loudon Blvd. On the east side of Lake Loudon, private RAILGATE parties will be held on stationary equipment including red cabooses and open air cars. Last year, the Railgates were named “Fanatical Fan Veheicle of the Week” by Tailgating.com
Each RAILGATES package includes onsite restrooms, security and staff, television, wristbands and corporate banner placement. Group sizes can range from 15-100 people and can be reserved for all home games. Additional options include catering, decorations and more. Groups who reserve a package this year have first choise next year. Reserve your RAILGATES space today by visiting www.railgates.com or calling (865) 524-9411. Individual tickets are not available for Railgates — you must be invited to gain access.
RAILGATES is manged by the Three Rivers Ramblers, which is an excursion passenger train that takes passengers on a 90 minute trip along the Tennessee River. During the fall, the excursion train departures are Oct. 7, 8, 14, 15, 28 & 29 at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Resercations are strongly encouraged. The Oct. 28 & 29 rides are being named The Pumpking Express. Passengers will get trick or treat during the ride and take home a pumpkin. These weekends highlights the changing fall colors along the Tennessee River. Read more at www.ThreeRiversRambler.com

My expreiences at Neyland Stadium
I have had several oppertunities to be inside Neyland Stadium in my life. First off I got to go as a fan. I went while my mom was enrolled in college at UT. I also got to go to a game last year with my wife, , and my daughter. That was fun!
Secondly, I got to go to the all the home games in 1998, the National Champions year. I got to go a security officer for the University of Tennessee Police Department (UTPD). I helped a Knox Count Reserve Officer pregame for bus parking around to the baseball field. Then, at kick-off we had to go to the stadium. At the stadium, they paired me off with a retired UTPD officer. They told us both to stay out of trouble. So we stayed in the A/C first aid lodge area. We got to watch the game on TV. Walk around at times and such.
The one expereince I won’t forget is the night I had to stay the night at Neyland Stadium. It was just after the Florida game, we beat them Gators. Everyone flooded the field and tore up the turf and the goal post. UTPD locked me inside, alone! So all night I had to walk around the whole stadium. I will say this, I know Neyland Stadium is huge, try being in it by yourself, it looks much bigger when no one else is inside it. I would walk toward the gates and people begged me to let them inside, the only thing is, I didn’t have a key. I was like sorry man, I don’t have any keys, I couldn’t even get out of this place, just like no one can get inside. I would walk around the field, I would go up to the very top and look over the side of the stadium to the Tennessee River.
Finally, I got to go as a member of the media. I got to be on the field taking pictures for the game for the paper I work for. That was really fun. The treat the media really well. If you are on the field taking pictures they have hot dogs and coke in the transfer room (where you can transfer the pictures previously taken to your work). They also give you a ticket to go up inside the Media skybox for a nice meal. I never had time to go up there, but according to what I heard they give you, it is almost what they would give the football players, I nice hearty meal.
So I got to have several sides of being in Neyland Stadium. Fan Side, Security Side and Media Side. Of course there are several other sides of being in Neyland Stadium.
