International Talk Like A Pirate Day

September 19th, 2006 | Category: Uncategorized

Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a parodic holiday invented in 1995 by two Americans, John Baur (”Ol’ Chum Bucket”) and Mark Summers (”Cap’n Slappy”), who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like pirates. For example, instead of “hello,” an observer of this holiday would greet his mates with “Ahoy, me hearty!” The date was selected because it is the birthday of Summers’ ex-wife and would consequently be easy for him to remember.

A close win!

September 17th, 2006 | Category: Uncategorized

Opening Thoughts
Tonight we played a big rival. #13 Tennessee Vols played #7 Florida Gators here in Knoxville at Neyland Stadium. I even had my gator hater t-shirt on today that I got from WIVK.

Gator Hater

I got to watch the game on tv tonight. It was on CBS at 8 p.m. I do believe this will be a great and tough game. Both teams are very tough and strong teams. This will prove to be intresting for both Leak, QB for FL and Ainge, QB for TN. I do believe it will be a very close game.

1st Quarter
At kick-off it was 79° F. TN recieved the ball first, can you believe on the first toss from Ainge he threw an interseption to FL. The ball went back and forth for a while. Then, FL scores and the extra point was good too. Making it TN—0 to FL—7. The ball again went back and forth. Leak then threw a ball that led to a TN interseption. Then, TN had to go for a field goal attempt and it was… GOOD! Now making the score TN—3 to FL— 7.

2nd Quarter
FL started w/the ball. FL went for a field goal attempt and it was NO GOOD! TN now has the ball and it lead to what was a touchdown, but there was a flag on the play and it was declined since it was against FL. The extra point was … GOOD! Now the score is TN—10 to FL—7. The ball again went back and forth. FL came close to a touchdown, if it wasn’t for the flag, illegal blocking, they would have made it. Then, TN intersepted the ball that later led to a touchdown, but it was taken away from a flag, roughing the passer. The ball went back and forth for a bit and FL tried for another field goal attempt, and it was NO GOOD! The 2nd quarter score was TN—10 to FL—7.

Half-time Thoughts
You can tell both are tough teams and tonights ball game has proven that. It is still too soon to tell what might happen. Both teams are strong teams as I stated in my opening thoughts. I do believe this can be anyones game.

3rd Quarter
FL started this quarter with the ball. Then, they had to punt the ball to TN. That led to a touchdown for TN, but this was ruled that he was down at the 1 yard line. So TN has to try for a touchdown at the 1 yard line. They finially make it at 3rd and Goal. Swain got the touchdown! The extra point is good too! TN—17 to FL— 7. Wilhoit was named Red Lobster Scholoar Athlete tonight. That gives the University of Tennessee a $1,000 general scholoar, in the scholoarship funds. The ball goes back and forth again and later FL gets a touchdown. The extra point for them is good too. TN— 17 to FL—14.

4th Quarter
TN starts this quarter. TN goes for a field goal attempt, 51 yards! Wilhoits kick is… GOOD! This is Wilhoits 3rd 51 yard field goal that made it! Congrats Wilhoit! TN—20 to FL—14. FL now has the ball and got a touchdown. The extra point was good too! TN—20 to FL—21. TN had the ball and was looking alright. They were 4 and 16 and FL intersepted the ball. There were only a few minutes left of the game you and you know the winning team when it is down like that will play with the clock so they can win. The Gators beat the Vols tonight by a score of TN—20 to FL—21.

Closing Thoughts
I do know the Gators are a great team, just like the Vols are. I am not sure if Ainge was ready for the pressure. You can tell Leak was ready for the pressure. I also believe the Vols got a little cocky about leading the game. That is what seems to happen a lot of times, the team gets a little cocky and then that is when it goes down hill. But, it was a very great game and close too. Both teams were great. This defently was a great game to watch. I believe any games that involve rivalries and tough teams are great to watch. They prove to be good games, that usually come close in scores. But, as I was quoted in The Knoxville Journal’s City Guide: Tennessee Vol Fans Guide 2006-07 Sports Guide on page 4, “I am all Vol! I am ready for them to play. Whether they win or lose, I am behind them all the way. My blood runs orange! GO VOLS!” I even have my picture on that page of me in my Big Orange Army t-shirt & dog tags. I do know that WGnerofotia/ is a happy camper tonight now! Also there was 106,118 fans at tonights game. Stadium record is 109,061, Sept. 18, 2004, Tennessee—30 to Florida—28. Roughly 2 years ago.

Mentioned Vols

  • #22, LaMarcus Coker, TB, 5′ 11″, 205, Fr.
  • #10, Erik Ainge, QB, 6′ 6″, 200, Jr.
  • #1, Jayson Swain, WR, 6′ 11″, 205, Sr.
  • #25, James Wilhoit, PK, 5′ 10″, 195, Sr.

Next Up To Play
Next week we will play Marshall. This will be our homecoming game. It will be played here in Knoxville at Neyland Stadium. It will be played on PPV at 4 p.m.

Big Orange Army Update

September 15th, 2006 | Category: Uncategorized

The Big Orange Army just made it on the news on WIVK. They mentioned how the tank, Huey is the tanks name, at their new location right now, has stopped traffic for those folks to see it as they pass by on the strip. They even said a few quotes from Coronel David Jamision. I just had to call him, to let him know the press releases are getting out and working! Jamision told me the kids are loving it! I think Chris Shields, my co-worker, did a great job writing it. We handed it over to the BoA for them to hand out and it seems to be working right now! So if you hear about the Big Orange Army on the news, let me know. You can let them know too! Want to know more about the Big Orange Army, visit www.bigorangearmy.com.

Fandemonium

September 14th, 2006 | Category: Uncategorized

I now can share with you the big news about The Big Orange Army. So I figured, I would use the Press Release for this event:

Knoxville, Tennessee – Tennessee’s next great tradition, the Big Orange Army is on the rise and ready for all orange blooded Vol fans to join. The BOA is a fan based officially licensed organization designed to unite the Volunteer faithful throughout the land. With the beginning of the 2006 football season, the BOA is gaining momentum in trying to reach its 100,000-member goal by the end of the football year.

On September 16, Florida comes to Knoxville and the Big Orange Army has picked this day to have the grand opening of their official headquarters. The store, located at 1838 Cumberland Ave., will sell officially licensed merchandise that features the organization’s own clothing line, fan game day gear and much more. The store will open at noon on Saturday.

Are you ready for Big Orange Fandemonium? Well, when the Big Orange Army unveils their newest addition, it’s sure to surprise. During the grand opening before the Tennessee – Florida game, Huey will make his debut as the newest member. A Big Orange Army Heavy Mech-1 tank, nicknamed Huey in loving memory of Hughlen R. Thornton Jr., will serve per say as the symbol of the BOA much like the cow serves Mayfield. The tank will be driven in convoy for charity events, promotional events, for kids and for the fans. The tank is the embodiment and spirit of the thousands and thousands of BOA soldiers. Knoxville city and county police, U.T. police, ATF and the National Guard have all been notified that the cannon of the tank has been permanently and irreparably decommissioned. The only thing shot from it will be BOA merchandise and orange and white confetti.

This upcoming event is a can’t miss opportunity for all Vol fans. Show your true colors and see what the Big Orange Army hype is all about.

For additional information on the Big Orange Army, the grand opening, or Huey visit the website at www.bigorangearmy.com or call (865) 671-ARMY.

This was written by Chris Shields. These photos below were taken by Chris Shields as well. I did the the photo editing. The one I knocked the background out, added the BoA crest and the name of the tank. The other photo, I added the BoA crest to it.

Huey

Huey & J. Black

Side note, want to know more about the Grand Opening, pick up a copy of The Knoxville Journal, Sept. 14 to 20, 2006 on page B8.

Have you seen this on any other media yet? Let me know if you have!
